Stewart was found at the end of June 2024 at Lorenzi Park in Las Vegas, NV with a large mass on his wing. His pictures were posted on social media which prompted a local rescuer to go capture him. She took him to a vet who gave him antibiotics and discussed possibly amputating his wing.
Unfortunately the rescuer could not keep him so she went on a search to find him a home. After plans fell throug
Once Stewart arrived, we assessed the mass which was very large causing the lower portion of his wing to sag. We immediately got in touch with his vet to have his antibiotics refilled until his next appointment which was two weeks later.
We thoroughly clean his wound, applied manuka honey and wrapped it well. We did this every day.

In the morning of Aug 3rd, Stewart would not get up to eat. I knew something was wrong so I immediately called Lone Mountain Animal Hospital for emergency care.
Dr. Parker knew his wing needed amputated but before surgery he needed bloodwork. His bloodwork count came back with an extremely low red blood cell count.

Dr. Parker immediately prepped Stewart for the blood transfusion advising me of the risks of him possibly rejecting it. But Stewart's body accepted it and by Sunday his levels were good enough to have surgery.
Dr. Parker amputated the bottom part of his wing and sent the mass to a lab for testing. The mass came back as soft tissue sarcoma which is an aggressive cancer.

Stewart has slowly been recovering since his surgery. We had to keep a cup over his bandage so he wouldn't pick at it tearing the stitches out.
His check up on Aug 17th showed his red blood cell count went from 10 to 24 which shows his body is reproducing them. His levels need to get up to 40. It can take months after a transfusion for levels to be normal. He will need ongoing check ups to make su
